We take "comforting mind and body" as our original aspiration. We embed the true essence of 慰庐 (Wèilú) into every detail, crafting a tranquil retreat away from the hustle and bustle of the world. It represents an elegant mountain residence for rest and relaxation, a peaceful haven to soothe your heart and soul.
Historical Origin
The name 慰庐(Wèilú) dates back to the Ming Dynasty. It was the elegant name of the former residence of Hong Shouzhi, a renowned economist of that era, embodying the ideal of living in seclusion and finding peace of mind.
During the Republic of China era, Bai Huizhang, my great-granduncle, adopted this name for his family mansion in Zunyi, which is now the Site of the Zunyi Conference.
The two Chinese characters 慰庐(Wèilú) on the memorial archway of the mansion were inscribed in regular script by Wang Zupei, signifying a dwelling that brings solace to people. On the reverse side, the characters 慎笃(ShenDu) (Prudence and Sincerity) were written in clerical script by Yang Yuanzhen, conveying the virtues of thoughtful deliberation, steadfast conduct and self-cultivation.
Inheriting this profound cultural heritage, our homestay blends the tranquility of nature with modern luxury, staying true to the original charm of this age-old serene abode.
Profiles of Calligraphers
Wang Zupei (1888 - 1958), courtesy name Zhusheng. A graduate of Zunyi Normal School, he once served as magistrate of Sinan, Yanhe, Dading and other counties. He also held positions in the Guizhou Army under Gu Zhenglun and the Finance Department of Guizhou Provincial Government.
Yang Yuanzhen (1885 - 1959), courtesy name Ganzhi, a native of Tuanxi, Zunyi County. He successively served as magistrate of Tongliang County in Sichuan and Sansui County in Guizhou. Later, he was employed by Zhou Xicheng, a prominent military and political figure, and took office as Director of Guizhou Government Affairs Department and Director of Guizhou Civil Affairs Department.
